Excel file as attachment marked as Malware by Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection ATP

One my colleague tried to send an email to a group with an excel XLSX file as an attachment.

Microsoft Office 365 Advanced Threat Protection detected this attachment as a potential threat.

Upon investigating the file I found that it was due to Externa Data connection , file was pulling data from other files in it.

How to remove external data connection in Excel

So we removed the external connections by following below steps

Data > Queries and connections > go to connection tab and right and delete the connection.

After removing the active external connections we were able to send the file without being detected as malware.

  3. Click on Users
  4. You may click on the Search box and search for the user Name or Email, since I have short user list
